Why Last 5 Hit Rate Can Be Misleading

Five games is noise wearing a trend’s clothes. Here’s what a small-sample streak hides.

Take any player over any five-game window and randomness alone will produce streaks and slumps that look like meaning. With samples that small, the hottest and coldest stretches are mostly variance.

Everything else moved too

Minutes shift with matchups and blowouts. Usage shifts with injuries. The line itself has moved — a 4-for-5 streak “over 26.5” says little about “over 29.0”.
